Heiðrik á Heygum

Heiðrik á Heygum (1983-) Educated from the Danish independent film school Super16 in 2014 and the Academy of Visual Art of Iceland in 2017.

Heiðrik is celebrated as a true renaissance figure, seamlessly merging film, art, and music into his creations, often intertwining all three disciplines. With an extensive background in these domains, he has also exhibited his art across various international locations.

Renowned as a leading artist and filmmaker in the Faroe Islands, Heiðrik has been behind the camera for award-winning films and music videos of prominent Nordic musicians like Brimheim, Eivør, Pernille Rosendahl, Janus Rasmussen, ORKA, Marius Ziska, and more.

Heiðrik's artistic wellspring is a fusion of mythology, legend, and surrealism intertwined with existential ponderings. His upbringing in the Faroe Islands, marked by a conservative and religious society, significantly influenced his early years. This upbringing spurred within him a yearning for escapism, driving his creative expressions.

He divides his artistic realm into two distinct domains: one realm delves into the surreal and fantastical, while the other introspectively examines gender roles, sexuality, and the journey to adulthood. However, one prevailing theme courses through both worlds: a palpable sense of melancholy. Whether it's whimsical or realistic, a shared current of isolation and solitude resonates through his work.
